Employability-based teaching: challenges, successes, and road ahead

Keywords: employability; higher education; management

Session Type: Roundtable/Breakout

Abstract

Traditional courses have focused on teaching and assessing students on theoretical knowledge; however, such forms of teaching may not lead to the desired employability outcomes for students. Although there are various forms of work-integrated learning activities/assessments that could be incorporated in management courses to enhance employability, implementation is fraught with challenges. The purpose of this breakout room discussion is to have a robust debate on employability-based teaching, share our experiences and challenges, and brainstorm potential solutions. Since employability remains one of the key reasons for students to aspire for higher education, it is a relevant area of discussion.
