Redesigning a professional development course for business students in the New Normal

Keywords: Professional skills, New Normal, Curriculum

Session Type: Roundtable/Breakout

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all sections of society, including higher education. The interactions between members of a work team and other stakeholders have significantly changed with the increased use of technology tools such as Zoom, Mentimeter, Miro, Click Up, MS Teams, etc. Reliance on technology is the most significant shift due to COVID. Many work practices have given way to practices such as work-from-home (WFH) and online meetings, even for important matters. To meet these environmental changes, we have redesigned a course, Professional Development, to prepare students to gain new skills that align with the modern workforce’s requirements. We included sustainability, negotiation, resilience, design thinking, etc. We present the topics, delivery plan, and assessments to identify a complete set of skills that meets the current workforce requirement. The session seeks to interact with peers with these details for mutual benefit.
