TEN WEEKLY PRACTICE OUTLINES

Below, we offer Ten Practice Outlines designed to take no more than 90 minutes a week to help prepare your team for competition. If your team has more than 90 minutes allocated for practice, we recommend integrating an additional practice activity or two into your sessions. More specifically,

  • Early in the practice season: we recommend shorter activities to get students used to the process of moving through SOLVE and applying other CLC Terms and Concepts together
  • As the practice season continues: revisit old activities, integrate longer activities (including former competition activities), and consider practicing in different formats (e.g., in-person and online) depending on which competitions you are participating in.

The practice outlines you find below are meant to be samples, not definitive guidelines on what you can and/or should do. We encourage you to leverage your strengths and styles to intentionally practice CLC Terms and Concepts as a coach; there is no single way to work through the CLC Experience

  • To demonstrate this, we asked three long-time established coaches to share the order with which they work through CLC Terms – as summarized in the chart below. To be sure, in all cases the expectation was that students came to practice having reviewed and committed the CLC Terms and Concepts to memory.
  • Notably, the order of CLC Terms covered varied across coaches, as did the extent to which they relied on outside sources, and the pace through which team members were responsible for knowing the CLC Terms.
